Sign in, sign out and staff PINs at the till
One tablet, several people. How to get in quickly, swap user, and deal with a forgotten PIN.
Steps
- 1
Sign in on the cashier tablet
Enter your Email and Password and tap Login, or tap Login with PIN to get in with your staff PIN alone. Tick Keep me logged in so the tablet does not ask every day.
- 2
Pick up the register that is already open
The Register Control page shows the Current Session: the register, who opened it, Opening Cash and Opened At. Tap Continue to POS to go in.
- 3
Enter the Staff PIN on Proceed
If your venue uses the PIN lock, tapping Proceed opens the Staff PIN window, prompting "Enter your PIN to process this order". This is what records who took that order.
- 4
Tap Logout to swap user
Tap Logout at the bottom of the sidebar. The register stays open, so the next person only signs in and taps Continue to POS.
- 5
When a PIN is forgotten
An Owner or Manager looks it up in EnakVP under Staff Management. The POS PIN column has a Copy PIN button, and a new PIN is set in the POS PIN field on that staff member. Meanwhile they can still sign in with email and password.
A PIN and a login are two different things: the login opens the tablet, while the PIN approves an action such as Split Bill, a discount, cancelling an order or editing the table layout.
Good to know
A little more depth, so your team understands why, not just which button.
The login PIN and the Staff PIN are the same PIN
One staff PIN does two jobs: quick sign-in through Login with PIN, and approving actions inside the POS. So a PIN should not be shared, because reports record it as that person’s name.
Logging out does not close the register
Signing out only signs the person out. The register session stays open, with its opening float and its orders, until somebody taps Close Register. That is what lets one tablet carry several shifts through a day.
PIN length is a venue setting
How many digits a PIN has follows your venue’s Staff PIN Length setting, and the PIN boxes on the login page match it. In EnakVP the field states the number of digits in use.
Staff without a PIN can still work
A PIN is optional: leaving it blank means that person signs in with email and password only. But if your venue uses the PIN lock, someone without a PIN cannot approve the actions that ask for one, so it is worth setting.
