Set up service areas so orders reach the right printer

Drinks printing in the kitchen instead of the bar? What decides where a docket prints is the service area and the menu category, not the dish.

Steps

  1. 1

    Open Service Areas

In EnakVP, go to Venue Management > Service Areas. Each row is one print destination, with its Printer Label, Area Type and Connection Status.

  2. 2

    Create the area

Tap the create button at the top right to add a new one. Fill in the Service Area Name, choose the Type (Cashier for till receipts, Operational for a kitchen or bar), then put the printer name in Printer Label.

  3. 3

    Switch on Connect Printer

Switch on Connect Printer and save. On the edit page the Printer URL appears, with a copy button. The Connection Status column then reads Connected, Disconnected or Enakpay Agent.

  4. 4

Point your menu categories at the area

This is the step most people miss. Go to Your Menu > Menu Management, open the menu with View, then tap Edit Category on the category and set Select Service Area. Dockets print at the service area of the category.

  5. 5

Prove it with a test print

Back in Service Areas, tap Test Printer on the row, then Send Test Print. EnakVP shows "Test print queued", which means the job was sent. Check that paper actually comes out.

There is no per-item service area setting. An item follows its category, a category follows its service area, and a service area follows its printer. Moving one dish to another category changes where it prints too.

Good to know

A little more depth, so your team understands why, not just which button.

The chain that decides where a docket prints

An item follows its category, a category carries Select Service Area, and a service area carries its printer. When a dish prints in the wrong place, it is nearly always the category pointing at the wrong area, not a broken printer.

Cashier and Operational

Type Cashier is for customer receipts at the till. Type Operational is for dockets in the kitchen, the bar or another station. Most venues have one Cashier area and several Operational ones.

Connection Status is not a guarantee

Connected means the server can hear the device, not that paper came out. Enakpay Agent means that area is served by an Agent tablet and does not poll the server itself. Always prove it with Test Printer.

Regenerate Printer URL breaks the old one

The Regenerate Printer URL button on the edit page mints a new address, and the old one stops working straight away. Use it only when the address leaked or the device changed, then put the new address on the device.
