How to choose a POS system for a restaurant, café or bar in Bali

To choose a POS system for a restaurant, café or bar in Bali, check three things first: it keeps working when the internet drops, the provider has a support team in Bali, and it accepts QRIS, e-wallets, cards and cash. Then compare QR ordering, kitchen display, inventory, hardware and the 12-month cost in Rupiah.
What should a POS system for a Bali venue be able to do?
Most POS systems can ring up a sale and print a receipt. The differences show up during a busy service in Bali: the connection drops, a printer stops, and guests from five countries want to pay five different ways. Use this checklist:
| What to check | Why it matters in Bali |
|---|---|
| Offline mode | Internet drops and power cuts happen during service |
| Local support | You need help in your opening hours, and sometimes on site |
| Payments | Local guests pay by QRIS and e-wallets, tourists often pay by card |
| QR table ordering | Large venues, beach clubs and peak season stretch your floor staff |
| Kitchen display and printers | Orders must reach the kitchen and bar without being re-entered |
| Inventory and cost per item (COGS) | Ingredient prices move, and margins go with them |
| Existing hardware | New tablets and printers can cost more than the software |
| Pricing in Rupiah | Monthly or yearly, onboarding fees and contracts decide the real cost |
| Multi-outlet and reports | You need to see every outlet without visiting each one |
Does the POS keep working when the internet or power goes out?
It should. Don’t stop at “do you have an offline mode?”. Ask what still works offline. The answer you want: staff can still take orders and accept payments, nothing is lost, and everything syncs once the connection returns.
A tablet on battery stays on through a power cut, but printers and routers need power. So also ask how orders reach the kitchen when the power is out.
With EnakPOS, staff can still take orders, accept payments, cancel items and move tables offline, and orders still print. Everything is saved on the device and synced when the connection returns. A few features, such as discounts and coupons, need an internet connection.
Is there local support in Bali when you need it?
Look for a provider with a team in Bali, not only a call centre in another city. Many venue problems are physical: a kitchen printer that stops receiving orders, Wi-Fi that is weak in one area, or new staff who need to be trained in person. A phone call doesn’t fix those.
Ask for four answers in writing: the real support hours, how long until a person replies, how long until the problem is fixed, and whether anyone can come to your venue. A venue serving dinner until midnight needs help at 9pm on a Saturday, not 9am on a Monday. What good onsite training and support should cover, in full, is in what in-person POS training and support should cover.
The EnakPay team is in Bali. We install the system at your venue and train staff where they work. Support is available 24/7, and we usually reply within a few minutes, 2 hours at most. When a problem can’t be fixed remotely, we come to your venue in Bali.
Does it accept QRIS, e-wallets, cards and cash?
A venue in Bali needs all four. Local guests are used to QRIS and e-wallets such as GoPay and OVO. Tourists often pay by debit or credit card. Cash is still common.
Check who processes the digital payments. The processor must be licensed by Bank Indonesia. Ask for the fee per payment method (MDR) in writing, and ask whether one bill can be paid with several methods.
EnakPay accepts QRIS, e-wallets, cards and cash. Digital payments are processed by our partner, PT Digital Solusi Pratama, which is licensed by Bank Indonesia and PCI DSS certified. EnakPOS also supports several payment methods on one bill, tips, and service charge and tax calculated automatically. At close, the register summary shows totals per payment method, split per bank.
Can guests order and pay by QR at the table?
If your venue has many tables or a large floor, QR ordering takes pressure off your staff in peak season. Guests scan a code, order and pay on their phone, and the table number is recorded on the order automatically.
For a venue with many tourists, ask whether the menu can appear in the guest’s language, whether guests have to download an app, and who keeps the translations up to date.
With EnakApp, guests order in their phone browser with no app to download, then pay by QRIS or card, or at the register. Your menu is translated for guests automatically.
How do orders reach the kitchen and bar?
Orders should reach the kitchen and bar without anyone carrying them, on a kitchen display or a printer in the right area. Orders go missing most often when they are re-typed or carried on paper.
Ask whether food and drinks can be sent to different areas, and what happens when an order fails to print.
In EnakPay, every order from the register or from QR is sent to EnakKDS and printed on the kitchen printer in the right area. EnakPOS warns staff when something fails to print.
Can it track stock and cost per item?
If you want to protect your margins, this is essential. A sales report shows what sold. Cost per item shows what you keep from each dish after ingredients.
Ask whether inventory works down to ingredient level (a recipe or BOM for each menu item), whether it supports stock takes and suppliers, and whether it is included in the plan or sold as a separate module.
In EnakPay, inventory is included in the Pro plan: ingredient-level BOM, stock takes, real-time cost per item, and supplier management.
Will it run on hardware you already own?
Ask this before you ask for a quote. New registers and devices can double your first-year cost.
EnakPOS runs on Android tablets, in the browser on a tablet or laptop including Apple devices, and on iMin POS devices with a built-in printer. Epson and ESC/POS printers and cash drawers are supported. Hardware is an optional add-on, not a requirement.
How is POS pricing worked out, in Rupiah?
Compare the 12-month total, not only the monthly price. Ask about onboarding fees, charges per device or per user, paid add-on modules, minimum contracts, and how to cancel.
EnakPay plans, per venue, excluding PPN:
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly (2 months free) | What’s included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | Rp299,000 | Rp2,990,000 | Register (EnakPOS) and venue portal (EnakVP) |
| Basic | Rp499,000 | Rp4,990,000 | Everything in Lite, plus QR ordering (EnakApp) and kitchen display (EnakKDS) |
| Pro | Rp799,000 | Rp7,990,000 | Everything in Basic, plus inventory, ingredient-level BOM and stock takes, real-time cost per item, supplier management, a loyalty programme and multi-outlet |
There is no onboarding fee, and the monthly plan has no annual contract. Paid yearly, Lite works out to about Rp249K per month. For the full breakdown, read how much a restaurant POS costs in Indonesia or see our plans.
Can it run several outlets, and what reports do you get?
If you plan to open a second outlet in Canggu, Ubud or Uluwatu, ask now how multi-outlet works and what it costs per outlet.
For reports, the minimum is net sales, voids, payment fees and sales by hour, with an export you can hand to your accountant.
EnakVP, the venue portal, shows net sales, voids and waste, payment fees, and sales by hour with your busiest hours, and exports to CSV, PDF and Excel. The Pro plan supports multi-outlet, and you can switch between venues from the portal.
Which POS systems do restaurants in Bali use?
Systems commonly used by restaurants, cafés and bars in Bali include Moka, Olsera, Quinos, Pawoon and EnakPay. This article doesn’t rank them. Features and prices change often, so test each system against the checklist above and ask for a written quote.
What should you ask every POS provider?
- What still works when the internet is down?
- Is there a support team in Bali, during which hours, and can they come to my venue?
- Which payment methods are supported, who processes them, and what is the fee for each?
- Are QR ordering, kitchen display and inventory included, or charged separately?
- Can I use the tablets and printers I already have?
- Are there onboarding fees, minimum contracts, or charges per device or per user?
- What is the 12-month total for one outlet, and for two?
- Can I try a demo with my own menu, with the staff who will use it?
