What is QR ordering for restaurants?

QR ordering is a way of ordering where guests scan a QR code on the table, open a digital menu in their phone’s browser, and send their order straight to the counter and kitchen without waiting for a waiter. Guests don’t download an app, and the table number is recorded automatically with every order.
How does QR ordering work in a restaurant?
The flow is short, and guests do it themselves on their own phone. In EnakApp it looks like this:
- Scan the QR code on the table. The guest opens their phone camera, scans the code, and your venue’s menu opens in the browser.
- Choose dishes and add-ons. The guest browses a photo menu, then picks a size, spice level or extras, or adds a note.
- Review the order. The guest chooses dine in or takeaway, and sees the tax and service charge before ordering.
- Pay. The guest pays straight away with QRIS or a card, or chooses to pay at the register.
- The order reaches the kitchen. It appears on the kitchen display or prints on the kitchen printer, with the table number and notes.

How is QR ordering different from a QR menu?
Many venues already use a QR code that opens a PDF or a photo of the menu. That helps guests read the menu, but a waiter still takes the order. QR ordering goes further: guests place the order themselves, and it goes straight into the system.
| QR menu (PDF or photo) | QR ordering | |
|---|---|---|
| What guests see | A static menu file | An interactive menu with prices and add-ons |
| How they order | Still call a waiter | Guests send the order themselves |
| Table number | Written down by staff | Recorded automatically from the QR code |
| Payment | At the register | On their phone or at the register |
| Changing prices or dishes | Make and upload a new file | Update it in the system |
| Sales data | None | Every order is recorded |
How does QR ordering help your venue?
- More accurate orders. Guests pick the dishes, add-ons and notes themselves, so there’s no mishearing and no handwriting for the kitchen to decipher.
- Staff can focus on service. Waiters spend less time walking orders and bills back and forth, and more time welcoming guests and turning tables.
- No waiting during the rush. Guests can order as soon as they sit down, and add more at any time without flagging someone down.
- The menu is always current. Price, photo and promotion changes you make in the venue portal show on the guest menu straight away.
- Decisions based on data. Every order is recorded, so you can see your best sellers and how each dish performs in EnakVP.
Is QR ordering right for every venue?
QR ordering makes the biggest difference in venues with many tables, busy peak hours, or large spaces like beach clubs and rooftops, where it’s hard for guests to catch a waiter’s attention.
A few things to consider:
- Some guests prefer to be served in person. Keep ordering through staff available too. In EnakPay, QR orders and counter orders go into the same system.
- Internet connection. Guests order in the browser, so make sure the Wi-Fi or mobile signal in your venue is reliable.
- Clear QR codes. Put a code on every table with an easy-to-read table number, and replace any that get damaged or faded.
What do you need to start QR ordering?
- A complete menu: item names, prices, photos and add-ons. At EnakPay, our team loads your menu into the system with no onboarding fee.
- A QR code for each table.
- Somewhere for orders to land: a kitchen display (read about KDS) or a kitchen printer.
- Payment methods: QRIS and cards through a licensed payment partner, or pay at the register.
- A reliable internet connection in the guest area and the kitchen.
